So I’ve been using this Smartpen from Livescribe since mid 2008 . I use it for everything as far as having to write anything on paper and I even do some drawing with it. I have notebooks for:
Personal Journal
Work Journal and meeting notes
Book of lists (it’s a pocket sized flip notepad)
One with household info for the family
A project notebook just for my projects
What I love about this pen (Echo Smart pen) is that it captures anything you write or draw as well as sounds in stereo and it syncs right to your computer by just plugging it in and using the free desktop software. It does everything it advertises and more.
I bought an add-on app call Myscript for Livescribe and it does a fantastic job of taking my handwriting as well as my printing and converting it to editable text.
My only issue with it is that you have to use the special dot paper…which isn’t all that big a deal because it comes in a variety of folios, pads, spiral and perfect bound styles. They’re just a bit pricey if you go through them like I do. BUTT, you can print your own if you have access to a digit color laser printer.
The photos are just samples of what it does.
The First photo up top is what my actual journal and pen look like…at least today.
The next photo is what my typical journal page looks like on screen and exported as a PNG file…it does other formats and has a direct connection to lots of productivity sites or email. Feel free to read my journal…I’m that boring!

This last one is a screen shot of the desktop software and organizational spread. These are pages from just my work journal / meeting notes.

Why am I pimping this product this year? Because after 3 years, I still use it religiously, It’s probably saved my job, finances and quite possibly my marriage. I never lose my lists now.
Best $100 bucks I ever spent…wait…there’s that paper thing again.  Nope. Still worth it.
Did I mention the part about converting handwritten notes to editable text files? That is just…I love it.
